Google, SEO and One Page Results

Google, SEO and One Page Results

The title is rather interesting isn’t it. And with anything that is Google and one page results everyone is listening or should be if you utilize SEO.

It seems that Google is testing a new design model with the search results page, it’s called infinite scrolling. Within the result pages, you will still see the top search box and navigation bar, as well as, the left panel, but the result pages will be a little more user friendly. If you want to see a sample of infinite scrolling, you just need to take a look at Google Images.

Improvement for the User:

1. Infinite scrolling could improve the user’s experience, by speeding up the search process.

2. For those that do research, this will give them a wider search option to explore what is out there on the Internet.

Improvement for Websites

The infinite scroll could improve chances for websites that are sitting on page two or three, a greater opportunity of being seen.

Okay, so how is this going to affect SEO?

SEO and  Infinite Scrolling

Many fear that SEO may become irrelevant because of the improved scrolling opportunities by Google. I do not believe infinite scrolling will make SEO go away. Remember, the search engines still need to know how to
categorize web pages and that is still through SEO and keywords. However, it will make people who have sites that have content that is short on quality, a need for quick improvements. Why? There is a greater opportunity with this feature for users to scan and skip to sites that actually give them the content they want.

Bottom line, Google has, and is making improvements that emphasize user experience. This has been seen with all of the Panda Updates. What has Panda Updates done? It has forced website owners to improve their sites or risk being loss in the Internet abyss. You can complain, but remember, change is constant on the Internet.

SEO or PPC-Which is Better?

SEO or PPC-Which is Better?

Both SEO and PPC have their advantages and disadvantages. I’m sure many people are rethinking their SEo strategies since the Panda update by Google.

Is SEO (Search Engine Optimization) still viable way of marketing your website? I definitely would not overlook it. And since the Panda update I would definitely be looking at my web pages if they have fallen because of the algorithm. Such as:

1. Too many of the same keywords repeated over and over again (keyword stuffing). This is a warning, and would lower your ranking and prevent your page from being indexed.

2. Are your keywords or keyword phases within 2% of the total words on your articles.

3. Most importantly, is your content up to par with the new Panda standards. If not, it’s time to do some reworking of your content.

4. If you are selling products, does your products have enough description to go along with your ad? You should have at least 150 words of description for each product.

If you have quality content and you know you are in compliance with Google, and you are not seeing the results you want, you may want to look at PPC.

Why PPC

There are several advantages with PPC, especially if you have a new website. Paid search ads gives you the following advantages:

1. You do not have to worry about the ups and downs of Google’s algorithm.
2. If your Adwords ads are targeted, you will know that your target market is going to be reaching your site, which possibly means more sales.
3. Great for time sensitvie promotions
4. If you have a limited sales seasons, you can saturate the market while the demand is high
5. You can regulate traffic volume
6. If you have a new site, the paid search ads will get buying traffic to your site faster.

Okay, here is the down side for PPC, if you are a new site, and unfamiliar with paid per click advertising you can lose money that you may not have to spend. This, I am afraid the “learning curve element” is true for anyone, who have never used PPC advertising, whether your site is new or not.

SEO though many may not want to take the time to learn it, is a great avenue for small businesses to be noticed. If you take your time, and do it right, you can see people coming to your site. And, if you do it yourself, you save money.

PPC offers a learning curve with an outlay of money. If you want to get into the PPC marketing arena I would advise searching for a reliable book on the subject.

Is SEO or PPC better? It depends where you are at in the game, and the money, if you have any, that you want to put into your PPC campaign.  Both offer targeted results, but each require some learning. I personally would begin with learning SEO. Why, it will help you with your PPC campaign. Each, by the way, utilizes keywords.

Panda Update-An Eye Opener

Panda Update-An Eye Opener

The Panda update was an eye-opener for many people. And the most important lesson learned was, do not put all your marketing eggs in one basket. If you are wise you will utilizing more than one marketing strategy.

Quality Content

Quality content is always important, but as time rolls on things change, especially on the Internet. It is always wise to recheck the content on your site to make sure that it is current and the information you are giving your readers are not obsolete. Keeping the information fresh, will encourage readers to visit again.

SEO

Whether you like it or not, SEO is important. It is the choice of your keywords that will draw the search engines to your site, along with quality content, of course. Take the time to utilize the proper keywords that identify your content. If you don’t, you will lose an opportunity to receive targeted visitors that can lead to sales. With the wrong keywords, you will receive visitors that will only increase your bounce rate.

Article Writing

Article Writing is still a viable way to getting traffic to your site. However, as I stated in an article called, Article Marketing In Crisis?, article marketing campaigns should not be the only method that you use to get traffic, and you will have to be a little more selective of the article directories that will house your articles.

Pay-Per-Click

Pay-Per-Click advertising works hand-in-hand with your keywords and your content. The keywords used in your Pay-Per-Click campaign should be present in your landing page.

This is just a sampling of other avenues that you can pursue when marketing your site or your products. SEO and Pay-Per-Click has been around for a long time, and I don’t think they will ever go away. And article marketing, it’s was forced to evolve and improve with the maturing of the Internet.

Lesson learned, make sure you utilize more than one avenue of marketing. If you only choose one, you’ll find it will take you longer to recover, if at all.

Google Instant – What It All Means

Google Instant – What It All Means

Google Instant, what is this creature? And, how is it going to affect Internet Marketing? Two good questions that many have been mulling over since Google has put Google Instant in play. So, do you need to worry? Let’s see.

Before we can discuss Google Instant, we need to first define it? Google Instant refers to Google Instant search. What it will do is give you faster and better search results. How? As soon as you start typing results will begin to shown. In addition, as you are typing you will be shown a range of possible queries that may be relevant to your search. These queries will appear in grey. And-this will all be seen before you ever hit the “Search” button.

As you may know, we read faster than we type. Thus, Google is hoping that their “Instant Search” will help you type less. And, if you type less, they figure they are saving you an average of 2-5 seconds per search.

You may have already used it. I found it rather interesting.  However, how will it effect SEO?

How Will Google Instant Affect SEO?

How will Google Instant affect SEO? Will it hurt or help your website that utilizes SEO? I found some of what is being said interesting. Your SEO may need some tweaking, when it comes to your keyword length and keyword character length. For example:

1) Google Instant will easily use 1-term keywords, while emphasizing fewer 2-term keywords. However, the 3+ keyword phases seem to have no significant changes.

2) Shorter keyword lengths. The length of the keywords will be shorter because the new search options will cause searcher to stop typing once they see the results they are looking for. (It is expected that the keyword character length will be from 3 to 9 characters in length and not the traditional 10 to 20 character length.)

It seems, if the above transitions are the case, Google Adwords will become more viable to making money. Why? It means that Google is attempting to improve the relevancy of the keyword and thus, making you improve your ad copy or content. Which in turn, it will help Google’s bottom line by moving traffic more efficiently through “paid listing” versus organic search.

All in all, do you need to worry about the changes? Of course. If you’re an internet marketer and want to effectively drive traffic to your site by paid listings or even organic search, you will need to tweak your ads and your content to keep traffic coming to your site or landing page. As for a new website, if you’re using the long tail search terms you should see no changes.(If you’re not, you should. Why? You cannot compete with the big boys.)

Google Breadcrumbs Anyone?

Google Breadcrumbs Anyone?
By Vickie Scanlon

Google Breadcrumbs? What in the world are Google breadcrumbs? And, how are they associated with Google.

In this instance, this has nothing to do with bread, but a different method in which Google is presenting your web pages to the global network.

So, what does that mean to webmasters? It means that you can see more of your links on the search result pages.

The best way in which you can get your breadcrumb URLs to show up in Google is to make sure you have a set of delimited links that accurately reflect your site’s hierarchy. Which means, your navigation and sitemap is becoming more important.

There are three types of Google breadcrumbs that Google have been using: by path, location, and attribute. Let me give you a quick explanation.

Types of Google Breadcrumbs

Path breadcrumbs-Is the path the user took to arrive at a page.

Location breadcrumbs – show where the page is located in the website hierarchy. (Currently, this type of breadcrumb I am seeing in my own search on Google).

Attribute breadcrumbs – Gives information that categorizes the current page.

Obviously Google is using location breadcrumbs. However, this new SEO technique is only in the beginning stages for Google (noticed that Yahoo is using it as well). This new technique can give you, the webmaster/blogger, greater exposure for your pages. So, my advise is to keep “breadcrumbs” in the back of their mind when you are building your site. Why? Though, this is my opinion-it’s great for the users, webmasters, and it makes the search engines all that more useful to the users.

And for the webmaster with SEO on their mind-it means that each link can be more or less valuable based on the relationship with and context to information found behind other links.

Though there is some confusion among webmasters/bloggers alike, as to what delimiter to use: /, >, ???, or | , I’ve seen my breadcrumbs showing up with /. Translated don’t change anything until you know a change is needed in this regard.

SEO Benefits and Drawbacks

If you want to make money online you can click here to download our Secret Affiliate Book.

SEO has it’s benefits and drawbacks. If you can wait to see results, SEO is a good process to consider. If you can take the time, work with SEO, you can have traffic for a long time. Below, you’ll find a quick look at some of the benefits and drawbacks of SEO.

SEO Benefits and Drawbacks
By Vickie J. Scanlon

SEO have it’s benefits and drawbacks as you will soon see. But, if you’re willing to learn SEO, you may find greater rewards for your website or blow. But first, let’s define SEO.

SEO Defined

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of placing specific keywords within your content, so that you can get free visitors from any and all search engines that find your site. If you do the process correctly, you can receive targeted visitors for a long time.

However, learning SEO is a daunting process. First SEO is not static, and second, Google changes the algorithms it uses in an attempt to keep webmasters honest. Thus, if you decide to jump into the SEO game you must be aware that you may have to tweak your content and keywords from time to time. But it’s doeable.

So what what are the benefits and drawbacks of SEO?

SEO Benefits

1) Permanent solution to getting traffic to your site

2) Only investment is your time-not your money.

3) SEO allows you to build an online presence over time

4) SEO placement goes across all search engines

SEO Drawbacks

1) SEO is a long term process, meaning, it may take 30 days to several months to see if the keywords you chose is giving you the results you want. And, if the keywords that you chose did not give you the results you want- traffic, sign up for a newsletter, etc., you will have to repeat the process once again.

Which means, it will take another 30 days to several months to see any results. I hear the groans out there now. And the under the breathe utterance of “There’s always a catch!”. There is, but if you expect to do little or no work and make a lot of money, it’s not going to happen.

2) Your web pages can only account for a limited number of keywords. This is what is usually called “keyword density”. Many say the optimum number of specific keywords should have a density between 1 and 3 percent. Using a keyword more, would be considered keyword spamming. If you spam the search engines, they can choose to penalize your site or ban your site completely.

3) If you choose keywords that are not relevant to your website, you’ll get traffic, but no buyers.

SEO can give you a long-term solution to traffic. Though SEO can get traffic to your site, it’s not a given that people will buy. That’s a completely different area of concern- your landing page.
